Jeffrey Quarry Solution Quartz
Charles Steuart, who owns CTS Rock Shop in Hot Spring, Arkansas, and I were talking when he mentioned that several years ago he bought an old collection of Jeffrey Quarry Solution Quartz crystals and really hadn't done anything with them. This perked my interest and I did a search for Solution Quartz on the internet and found very little information. I had read the history of Jeffrey Quarry on state geologist, Mike Howard's, web site and was fascinated by the story.

I offered to set up a web page with information about Solution Quartz and to see if there was a market for these unique and rare crystals. I asked Charles to write up a little history and information about how acquired this old collection of crystals. This is what he wrote:"I have always liked Jeffrey Quarry Quartz every since I laid eyes on it back in the 1950?s. It has always had a fascination to me as well as others. I couldn't scrape up enough money to rub two dimes together much less to have enough to buy pretty rocks.
In 1963 I went off to Arkansas Tech at Russellville and got me one of them College degrees in Geology. It took me until 1972 to get out but I had a 4 year sabbatical with Uncle Sam 1965-1969.
My wife and I bought a rock shop in 1997. In 1998 the guy that sold me the shop told me that he had 1000 pounds of Jeffrey that he and his dad dug over 30 years ago. Do you want to buy it? We struck a deal!
I was now the proud owner of a bunch of Jeffrey. Years rocked on and I sold, traded and gave away a little of it. I just couldn't see giving it up.? It was mine, all mine.
The Quarry sold this year (2006) to some developers that are going to build houses around these two lakes. (flooded Quarries). If they knew how many stolen cars, guns and dead bodies that I have heard that are in the bottom?

Any way, there will be no more Jeffrey Quarry Quartz coming out of area unless it is out of someone's personnel collection."

Many pieces of the Solution Quartz crystals have golden yellow to greenish balls of Cookite on them. In addition, Charles showed me a bucket full of Rectorite, which I had never heard of. Here is how Charles describes Rectorite:
"Now this Jeffrey Quarry Quartz grows in this "Rectorite" named after a lawyer that lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It is a jelly when in the rock fractures. The quartz grows in this jelly and that is why every crystal is double terminated, unless it grew on the sandstone. Now when you dig the quartz out of the fractures, the rectorite hits the air and turns to what is called "Mountain Leather". It's some neat stuff and is a clay mineral. It is flexible just like leather. If you look at it close, you will usually see small double terminated quartz crystals.

How to order: My preferred method is for you to send me an Email request with the items you want and your mailing address. I will then email you an invioce with payment instructions. You can also phone in your request (870) 867-2443 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm CST. You can also write to Stuart Schmitt, 60 Mary's Eagle Trail, Mount Ida, AR 71957. I offer a money back guarantee on all my crystal sales. If you're not satisfied, simply return the crystal and I'll refund your money.Shipping: Shipping cost will be added to the order. I ship U.S. Post Office Priority Mail within the US and use the USPS Postal Calculator to determine shipping costs. I can get 2 pounds in the small flat rate box for $9.45 shipping cost. I can get about 20 pounds of crystals in the medium Priority Mail flat rate box for $16.10 shipping cost.
2 Payment Options:
(1) I accept personal checks or money orders (in USD) from US banks and will ship upon receipt of payment.
(2) I accept payment via PayPal for orders over $40. You can log in to your PayPal account and "send money" to stu@arcrystalmine.com.
I would appreciate your prompt payment when you receive the email invoice since we do not have room to store your order. My shipping department (wife) gets upset when orders sit around on her dining room table waiting for payment.
